Family and relationship issues

I often work with people experiencing difficulties in their family life and relationships, including conflict, affairs and relationship breakdown.

It can be very difficult to manage family and relationship problems, whether they are happening now or in the past. They can leave a lasting impact, creating pain and confusion. Therapy can help you to explore and make sense of what has happened, offering increased clarity, perhaps helping to mourn the end of a relationship with a partner, friend or family member.

We can also work to understand how family relationships may have, over time, shaped how you see yourself and others. These relationships may have created lasting patterns, which may once have served you, but now get in the way of forming secure connections. I will explore the ways you relate to others, and help develop your awareness of this, drawing on research about attachment patterns in relationships. This understanding can lead to a greater sense of security and self-acceptance.

The therapy relationship can be an important part of re-working relational patterns and can help you make the changes you’re looking for, whether this is to be more assertive, to find greater connection with others, or to address something that’s affecting your ability to form relationships.
